New toolkit to boost health and safety

Site Safe has welcomed the announcement of a new toolkit designed to help businesses improve health and safety.

Site Safe Chief Executive Alison Molloy says the new Workplace Health and Safety Performance Improvement Toolkit is a welcome addition to the current support offered by government.

“We hope that the toolkit will give businesses another way to measure success in health and safety and help them improve their business as it matures.

“I look forward to seeing how the new resources can help small to medium-sized businesses lift their health and safety performance beyond compliance.”

The toolkit will be available as three separate products:

  • resources and guidance on the WorkSafe website
  • an independent on-site assessment
  • a free online self-assessment.

The first two items will be available from September 2017, with the online assessment expected to be available from mid-2018.

The toolkit is the result of the work done by WorkSafe, ACC and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on the Safety Star Rating Initiative, and is designed to provide a nationally-recognised definition of what good health and safety looks like beyond compliance.
